Weekend Box Office: Sept 6 - Sept 8, 2019
Our prediction last week was an easy one! With the huge success of the first film, and the fact that there is no other competition we predicted 'It: Chapter Two' would dominate at the Box Office and that's exactly what it did!
Your #1 movie after this past weekend was in fact 'It: Chapter Two' with an impressive $91M opening Weekend! Far beyond the 2nd place film & previous box office winner from the last 2 weeks, 'Angel Has Fallen' with only $5.9M. The R-Rated comedy 'Good Boys' dropped to 3rd place with $5.4M, 'The Lion King' came in 4th place with $4.3M and rounding out the top spots in 5th was 'Hobbs & Shaw' with $3.8M!
There are a few movies opening this weekend in wide release. 'The Goldfinch' a drama about a boy in New York who is taken in by a wealthy family after his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, starring Nicole Kidman. Also opening in theatres is the crime dramedy 'Hustlers' starring Jennifer Lopez about a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients. As much props as we want to give J-Lo for just turning 50 years old and portraying this role, the IT sequel is just way too strong and will once again dominate the box office! So our official prediction is that 'It: Chapter Two' will repeat as the #1 movie after this coming weekend!
Just one quick thought, hindsight is 20/20, but why didn't producers release 'It: Chapter Two' this coming weekend on Friday the 13th instead of last weekend? Would have dominated anyway and it's a cool tie in to the horror genre releasing on Friday the 13th! Regardless it made $91M so really who cares lol!
