After a disappointing opening weekend by 'Birds Of Prey' we predicted that 'Sonic the Hedgehog' would speed past the competition and be the new #1 movie at the Box Office and that's precisely what happened 😊
Bringing the classic video game to life on the big screen with Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic and Jim Carrey as the villain Dr. Ivo Robotnik, 'Sonic the Hedgehog' had an impressive opening weekend of $58M! If you include that Monday was a Long Weekend in both Canada & the USA it had a 4-day total of $70M!
Even with a new official title, 'Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey' dropped to 2nd place with $17M, and at the time of this post, a lacklustre 11-day domestic total of only $61.8M. In 3rd place with $12.3M was 'Fantasy Island'. It's a new horror adaptation of the popular '70s TV show about a magical island resort. Another new film, 'The Photograph', premiering this past weekend opened in 4th place with $12M. It is a film about a series of intertwining love stories set in the past and in the present. Rounding out the top spots in 5th place with $11.5M was 'Bad Boys for Life'.
There is only one movie opening in wide release this coming weekend, 'Call of the Wild' starring Harrison Ford. It's about a sled dog who struggles for survival in the wilds of the Yukon, based on the famous novel by Jack London. Although this movie will most likely crack the top 5, it will not be enough tp take 1st place. So our official prediction is that 'Sonic the Hedgehog' will repeat as the #1 movie at the Box Office after this coming weekend. Thank you so much for tuning in to these weekly Box Office reports!
