Weekend Box Office: Sept 13 - Sept 15, 2019
We predicted last week 'It: Chapter Two' would repeat as your #1 movie at the Box Office this past weekend, newcomer 'Hustlers' gave Pennywise a run for the money but in the end, we were correct and the Losers Club came out on top!
'It: Chapter Two' came in 1st place with $39.6M, and an impressive two week gross of $324M worldwide. 'Hustlers' starring Jennifer Lopez did way better than most expected with a 2nd place opening weekend of $33M domestic! Dropping into 3rd place was 'Angel Has Fallen' with $4.4M, 'Good Boys' came in 4th place with $4.2M and rounding out the top spots in 5th was 'The Lion King' with $3.6M! 'The Lion King' now has a worldwide total of $1.6 Billion, 2nd this year only to the highest grossing movie of all time worldwide 'Avengers: Endgame'!
There are 3 movies opening in wide release this coming weekend. The first being a theatrical continuation of the immensely popular TV series 'Downton Abbey' which is going to launch in over 3,000 theatres. Next is 'Rambo: Last Blood' the latest story in the Rambo saga, yes Sylvester Stallone is still kicking butt at 73 years old lol! Also opening this weekend is 'Ad Astra' starring Brad Pitt as Astronaut Roy McBride who undertakes a mission across an unforgiving solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father and his doomed expedition that now, 30 years later, threatens the universe. It's getting a lot of solid reviews, has an all-star cast and is opening in 3,400 theatres. After 'It: Chapter Two' dropping 56.5% this past weekend we are officially predicting 'Ad Astra' will be the new #1 movie at the box office after this coming weekend! If 'Downton Abbey' wins we wouldn't happy about it, but we wouldn't be shocked either lol! Tune after the weekend to our next report to see if we were right 😉.
