Last week we predicted 'Frozen II' would have a monstrous opening weekend, somewhere in the $100M range, well it did even better than that! With an opening weekend of $130.2M, 'Frozen II' was easily the #1 movie at the Box Office, it also broke the record for highest grossing opening weekend for an animated film outside of a Summer release. In 2nd place this past weekend was 'Ford v Ferrari' with $15.7M, dropping from the top spot last week. In 3rd place with $13.2M was a brand new movie, the biography drama 'A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood' starring Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers. In 4th place with $9.2M was another new movie premiering this past weekend '21 Bridges' starring Chadwick Boseman, and rounding out the top spots in 5th place with $4.6M was the World War II drama 'Midway'.
There are 2 new movies opening in wide release this coming weekend! 'Queen & Slim' a film about a couple's first date that takes an unexpected turn when a police officer pulls them over. Also opening is 'Knives Out' from director Rian Johnson. It's a murder mystery with an A-List All Star Cast that includes Daniel Craig, Chris Evans & Jamie Lee Curtis. While we do want to see this movie, it looks fun, we don't think anything is stopping 'Frozen II' from repeating as the #1 movie at the Box Office this coming weekend! That is our official prediction, and just to challenge ourselves we also predict that it should see a 2nd weekend domestic total of around $70M.
