Weekend Box Office: July 19 - July 21, 2019
As we predicted last week, your new "King of the Box Office" was Disney's newest Live-Action remake of 'The Lion King'! It was indeed the #1 movie with an impressive opening weekend of $191M domestically and at the time of this report $564M worldwide in just 4 days! Wow!
In 2nd place this past weekend after 2 weeks in a row at the #1 spot was 'Spider-Man: Far from Home' with $21.2M and a worldwide total now of $975M! After this coming weekend they will cross $1B for sure! In 3rd place with $15.5M was another Disney owned property, 'Toy Story 4' and in 4th place with $6M was the new Alligator Action Adventure 'Crawl'. Rounding out the top spots in 5th place with $5M was the Danny Boyle directed Comedy 'Yesterday'.
It is worth noting in this report that after this past weekend 'Avengers: Endgame' finally toppled 'Avatar' as the highest grossing movie of all time worldwide! With the recent re-release it was, as Thanos would say, "Inevitable".
There is only one new movie opening this Weekend in wide release and that is the new Quentin Tarantino film 'Once Upon a Time In Hollywood'! We really want to see this movie! Love Tarantino, amazing cast too but our official prediction is that 'The Lion King' will repeat as the #1 movie at the Box Office! It had way to big of an opening weekend not to repeat, and with kids out of school, 'The Lion King' will easily be a beast at the box office for at least one more weekend! We can safely predict 'Once Upon a Time In Hollywood' will probably open in 2nd place with an opening weekend of about $55M, I guess we will have to wait to see!
