Weekend Box Office: Jan 18 - Jan 20, 2019

As we predicted last week, the M. Night Shyamalan universe crossover film 'Glass' was the #1 movie at the Box Office with an opening weekend of $40.5M! Doubling its surprisingly low budget of only $20M. In 2nd place with $15M was last week's #1 movie 'The Upside' starring Bryan Cranston & Kevin Hart. 3rd place went to 'Aquaman' with $10M, now with a domestic haul of over $300M and more importantly well over $1B worldwide. It's the highest grossing movie in the Extended DC Universe, and on it's way to try and become the highest grossing DC film of all time globally. It needs just over $20M to catch 2012 'The Dark Knight Rises' for the title with $1,084.9B! In 4th place this past weekend was 'Dragon Ball Super: Broly' with $9.7M, impressive, considering it was only in 1,236 theatres! Rounding out the top spots in 5th with $7.5M was 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', now in its 6th week earning a total $325M worldwide!

There are 2 new movies opening in wide release this coming weekend! 'The Kid Who Would Be King', the story of a band of kids that embark on an epic quest to thwart a medieval menace. Also, 'Serenity' starring Matthew McConaughey & Anne Hathaway about the mysterious past of a fishing boat captain that comes back to haunt him, when his ex-wife tracks him down with a desperate plea for help.

It's hard to imagine either of these movies taking the top spot, we could see 'The Kid Who Would Be King' cracking the top 5 maybe, but definitely not #1. That being said our official prediction is that 'Glass' will repeat as the #1 movie at the box office this coming weekend!
