Hope you all had a great Weekend! Three new movies premiered in theatres and took the top 3 spots, and as we predicted last week 'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part' was the #1 movie at the box office with $34M. This total was a little lower then everyone thought but it was good enough to take the top spot. In 2nd place with $18.2M was 'What Men Want' starring Taraji P. Henson. We gave this remake of 'What Women Want' that starred Mel Gibson back in 2000 a hard time, but on a budget of only $20M, this was a solid debut. In 3rd place was the latest from Liam Neeson called 'Cold Pursuit' with an opening weekend of $11M, showing the 67 year old can still kill bad guys and people are willing to pay to see it lol. In 4th place with $7M was 'The Upside' and in 5 weeks now has an impressive domestic haul of $85M! Rounding out the top spots in 5th place, after 3 weeks in a row at #1, 'Glass' came in with $6.2M this past weekend. A big drop from the top spot, but it now has a worldwide box office total of $222M on a budget of only $20M.
There are 2 movies opening in wide release this Valentine's Day Weekend, 'Happy Death Day 2U' a horror sequel to 2017's 'Happy Death Day' & 'Isn't It Romantic' starring Rebel Wilson. She plays a young woman disenchanted with love mysteriously finds herself trapped inside a romantic comedy. We get it, it's Valentine's Weekend and you would think Horror and a Rom Com are a perfect choice to release this weekend, however we don't feel either movie is strong enough to win the box office.
That being said then, our official prediction is that 'The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part' will repeat as the #1 movie this coming Weekend!
