It was pretty much a given that 'Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker' was going to dominate the Box Office over the Weekend! So our prediction was an easy one to make and Episode 9 of the Skywalker Saga had a monster opening weekend of $177.3M! The film also had a serious boost on Christmas Day to bring its domestic total now to $259.2M & another $257.9M overseas for an impressive worldwide total of just over $517M in just 6 days!
'Jumanji: The Next Level' dropped to 2nd place with $26.5M this past weekend bringing its 2 weekend total to over $102M. In 3rd place with $13M was 'Frozen II', opening in 4th place with $6.6M was the latest adaptation of the musical 'Cats' and rounding out the top spots in 5th place with $6.5M was 'Knives Out'.
There were a few movies that opened on Christmas Day that will see their first weekend in theatres starting today! Such as the latest adaptation of 'Little Women' starring Saoirse Ronan; also 'Uncut Gems' starring Adam Sandler who is receiving critical raves about his performance; last but not least is the new animated feature 'Spies in Disguise' starring the voices of Will Smith & Tom Holland. While we are sure some of these new films will have a solid 1st weekend in theatres, most likely within the top 5, nothing is going to stop Star Wars lol! It will no doubt dominate theatres again this coming weekend. So our official prediction is that 'Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker' will easily repeat as the #1 movie on the planet.
