The #1 movie at the Box Office this past weekend was our predicted pick, the new animated feature 'Abominable'! It had an opening weekend of $20.6M and that was good enough to be 1st place over last week's top film 'Downton Abbey', which dropped to 2nd place with $14.3M domestic. In 3rd place with $11.3M was 'Hustlers' which climbed up from 5th place last weekend! Impressive numbers from the crime dramedy starring Jennifer Lopez, it now has a worldwide total of $98M on a budget of only $20M! 'It: Chapter Two' remained in 4th place with $10.2M and by next weekend it should surpass $200M domestic! Rounding out the top spots this past weekend with $10M in 5th place is the disappointing 'Ad Astra'. Dropping from a 2nd place opening last weekend to 5th now and a total of only $35M domestic is not good! Critics praised the movie but it sure doesn't resonate with audiences enough to bring in a solid return.
There is only one movie opening in wide release this coming weekend, 'Joker' starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips. Phillips is much more known for classic comedies like 'Old School', 'Due Date' & 'The Hangover' Trilogy. Here he tells a stand alone gritty story away from the DC universe about Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by society. Very excited for this one! It looks Dark, edgy and fun! It is premiering in 4,300 theatres priming it for a huge weekend. We can safely predict 'Joker' will be your new #1 movie at the box office!
