Weekend Box Office: October 5-7, 2018

Well, our prediction last week was correct, 'Venom' was #1 at the Box Office this past Weekend! Grossing a record breaking $80.2M, making it #1 all time for an October opening weekend! No surprise, with Tom Hardy as the star, it's Marvel "Anti-Superhero" theme and that it was in 4,250 theatres. The only real competition was coming from the new musical love story 'A Star Is Born', from first time Director & Star Bradley Cooper. Although 'A Star Is Born' did in fact come in 2nd place this weekend, and is receiving rave reviews from the critics, it also did really well with a solid $42.9M opening weekend on a budget of only $36M. Rounding out the top 5, in 3rd place was the animated movie 'Smallfoot', followed by last week's #1 falling all the way to 4th place this week, the Kevin Hart comedy 'Night School' & finally in 5th place the Jack Black Family Fantasy Film 'The House With A Clock In Its Walls'

Opening this weekend is another Oscar contender 'First Man' by director Damien Chazelle teaming up again with his 'LA LA Land' star Ryan Gosling. It examines the life of the astronaut, Neil Armstrong, and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon. Also opening is the original looking thriller, with an insanely cool cast 'Bad Times at the El Royale' & the sequel to the 2015 Goosebumps movie, 'Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween' staring Jack Black.

As for our prediction, we could totally see 'Venom' repeat as #1, but 'First Man' has a lot of momentum behind it, so it will interesting to see who comes out on top. Tune in every Week as we recap the Weekend! For full box office results please use our source for all this info Box Office Mojo!
