Weekend Box Office: October 19-21, 2018

As we predicted last week, the 40th anniversary reboot of 'Halloween' with the original film's star Jamie Lee Curtis was #1 at the Box Office this past weekend! An impressive $76M haul, making it the 2nd highest opening weekend ever for October on a super low budget of only $10M! This movie is going to be extremely profitable!  Coming in 2nd place for the third week in a row is 'A Star Is Born' earning another $19M bringing it's domestic total to $126M! 3rd place went to last week's #1 repeat winner 'Venom' starring Tom Hardy, with an $18M weekend. Rounding out the top five & staying in 4th place for a second week in a row was 'Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween' with another $9.7M & dropping from 3rd place last week to 5th this past weekend was 'First Man'. The bio-pic of astronaut, Neil Armstrongstarring Ryan Gosling earning only $8M. It is truly underperforming on a $59M budget, but will hopefully make up for it come award season.

Opening this coming weekend is the military action thriller 'Hunter Killer'! Starring Gerard Butler, it's the story of an untested American submarine captain teams with U.S. Navy Seals to rescue the Russian president, who has been kidnapped by a rogue general. Although it is new film it's only opening in 2,800 theatres, so there will still be strong competition from this week's #1 juggernaut 'Halloween'! Very tough call here, but ultimately we think 'Halloween' will repeat at #1, it's just way to strong of an opening not to repeat again.
