Our prediction last week was 'Joker' starring Joaquin Phoenix would be your new #1 movie at the Box Office and boy were we right! Not only was 'Joker' in first place with a $96.2M, it also had the largest October domestic opening weekend of all-time and the 4th largest ever by an R-rated movie. 'Joker' had an impressive total overseas as well giving it a worldwide total of over $250M in just 4 days.
In 2nd place this past weekend was last week's box office winner 'Abominable' with $11.9M and 3rd went to 'Downton Abbey' with $7.9M bringing its 3 week domestic total to $79M! In 4th place with $6.3M was 'Hustlers' and rounding out the top spots in 5th place this past weekend was 'It: Chapter Two' with $5.3M!
There are a couple new movies opening this coming weekend! One is the latest animated adaptation of 'The Addams Family' opening in over 3,800 theatres. The other major film opening in about 3,500 theatres is a new Sci-Fi thriller 'Gemini Man' starring Will Smith. This is a tough call! We think it's going to be close between 'Joker' repeating at #1 or families going out to see 'The Addams Family' this weekend. For our official prediction I think we have to go with 'Joker'. It was such a strong opening weekend and the word of mouth is huge, although it might dip 45% from last week, we think it will be enough to repeat as your #1 movie at the box office!
