Weekend Box Office: Oct 11 - Oct 13, 2019
Last week we predicted 'Joker' would repeat as the #1 movie at the Box Office and of course that is exactly what happened 😉 With $55.8M 'Joker' starring Joaquin Phoenix came in 1st place and at the time of this post, now has a worldwide box office total of over $600M! Impressive total for the R-Rated film which was produced on a budget of only $55M and in theatres now for only 12 days! In 2nd place was the latest animated adaptation of 'The Addams Family' opening in theatres this past weekend with a total of $30.3M and 3rd place with $20.5M was another new film, 'Gemini Man' starring Will Smith. In 4th making a huge drop was 'Abominable' with $6M and rounding out the top spots this past weekend in 5th place with $4.8M was 'Downton Abbey'.
There are 2 new movies opening in wide release this coming weekend. 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil', a sequel to the 2014 film staring Angelina Jolie as the titular evil character. Also opening this weekend is another sequel 'Zombieland 2: Double Tap' starring Woody Harrelson. Tougher decision for our prediction this week! 'Joker' is on a roll but with these new movie sequels, with built in fan bases, it would be tough for 'Joker' to 3-Peat. So our official prediction is that 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' will be your new #1 movie at the Box Office after this weekend! The 1st film had a $69M opening weekend, albeit at a different time of year with a May release. However, anything similar would be more than 'Joker' would do in its 3rd weekend in theatres and 'Zombieland 2' will easily be in the top 5 but won't be able to beat these films.
