Box Office

Weekend Box Office: Oct 18 - Oct 20, 2019

Last week we thought 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' would have enough evil power to dethrone 'Joker'  and predicted it would become the new #1 movie at the Box Office! Our prediction of course was correct, although with $36.9M, it was not as strong of an opening weekend for 'Maleficent 2' as people had thought. After 2 weekends in the Top Spot 'Joker' dropped to 2nd place this past weekend with $29.2M and an impressive domestic total of $250M! In 3rd place was another new release and sequel, 'Zombieland 2: Double Tap' starring Woody Harrelson with an opening weekend of $26.8M eclipsing the opening of the first 'Zombieland' film total of $24.7M ten years ago. In 4th place was 'The Addams Family' with $16.3M and rounding out the top spots in 5th place with $8.3M was 'Gemini Man'. Very disappointing outting domestically for the Will Smith Sci-Fi Thriller, at the time of this post earning only $37M on a budget of $138M. They will have to hop to make up th difference in international markets.

There are a few movies opening in wide release this coming weekend including 'Black and Blue', about a rookie police officer in New Orleans that witnesses other police officers committing murder. Also, 'Countdown', a new Horror film about an App that predicts when you die. Insert Eye Roll Here LOL! Last but not least is the drama 'The Current War', the true story of the cutthroat race between electricity titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to determine whose electrical system would power the modern world. While this film looks leaps and bounds better than its competitors, has an all-star powerhouse of acting cast and I'm sure will be an awards contender that doesn't mean it will be the top grossing movie over the Weekend. So we predict it will be pretty low totals for all films, but 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil' will most likely repeat as the #1 movie at the Box Office after this weekend. We wouldn't be shocked either if 'Joker' moves back up to the top spot though.
