Box Office

Weekend Box Office: Nov 8 - Nov 10, 2019

It was a surprise #1 finish for the World War II drama 'Midway' as everyone, including us, predicted 'Doctor Sleep' was going to be the top movie at the box office this past weekend!

Brand new releases took the top 4 spots with last week's #1 movie dropping all the way to 5th place. 'Midway' was your box office champ on another quiet weekend with a domestic total of $17.8M, while 'Doctor Sleep' was caught napping with a 2nd place finish of $14M. In 3rd place with $12.7M was the new family comedy 'Playing with Fire' starring John Cena and in 4th place with $11.4M was the new Holiday Rom-Com 'Last Christmas'. Dropping all the way to 5th place with $10.8M, after a sub-par opening weekend last week, was 'Terminator: Dark Fate'. With a domestic total now of only $48M, it's a far cry from the old Terminator days. This new film is coming up short on all expectations big time with a budget of $185M!

There are a few new movies opening in wide release this coming weekend including 'The Good Liar' starring living legends Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren about a career con artist who meets well-to-do widow online. Also opening is
'Ford v Ferrari' the true story of Ford's attempt to build a revolutionary race car to challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. It has an all-star cast led by Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Last but not least, opening this weekend is the latest reboot of the 'Charlie's Angels' franchise. This time starring Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Banks who also wrote the screenplay and directed the film. Call us crazy, but I think after a few
lacklustre weekends at the box office audiences are looking for some fun! So we'll take a flyer here and predict 'Charlie's Angels' will be the new #1 movie at the Box Office after this coming weekend! Of course, all of this will be moot the following weekend when 'Frozen II' opens in theatres.
