Weekend Box Office: Jan 17 - Jan 19, 2020

Although it had been 17 years since the last film there was definitely a nostalgia factor, so last week we predicted 'Bad Boys for Life' would be the new #1 movie at the Box Office and that's exactly what happened. In fact, it was the 2nd highest opening ever for a January release with $62.1M!

When early reports for the weekend came in, it had the new family adventure comedy 'Dolittle' in 2nd place. However, when the final actuals were tallied it was last week's box office winner '1917' that was in 2nd place with $22M and 'Dolittle' in 3rd with $21.95M! Super close! In 4th place with $9.6M was 'Jumanji: The Next Level' and rounding out the top spots in 5th place was 'Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker' with $8.3M! It is also worth noting, 'Rise Of Skywalker' crossed the $1B mark worldwide after this past weekend.

There are a few movies opening in wide release this coming weekend!
Including a new Horror film 'Turning' about a young governess hired by a man who has become responsible for his young nephew and niece after the deaths of their parents. A modern take on Henry James' novella "The Turn of the Screw". Also opening this weekend is the latest from director Guy Ritchie, 'The Gentlemen'. Back to the style of film that made him famous, this looks like a fun, action packed, crime-comedy with an all-star cast! We are really excited to see this, the question is will everyone else feel the same way? Although 'The Gentlemen' could easily make the top 5, we don't think anything is going to stop Miami Super Cops Lowrey & Burnett! So our official prediction is that 'Bad Boys for Life' will repeat as the #1 movie at the Box Office after this coming weekend. Thank you so much for tuning in to these weekly Box Office reports!
