Funko Funatics!

Funko Funatics!

Matthew C. of Calgary, Alberta!

Congratulations to Matthew Chu of Calgary, Alberta for being the latest K-Dog & Fish Funko Funatic of the Week!

Here is Matthew's Funko Story:

My first ever Funko item was an Aaron Judge pop I picked up on a whim, just because he is my favourite player on my favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. I always saw pops around in stores but never thought much of them. I even had no idea that box condition was important so I remember just throwing the pop in my backpack and heading home. I find this really funny because now box condition is beyond important for me. I take pride in having pops with mint boxes and “tight corners” according to Fish. It wasn’t until my parents gifted me pops for Christmas a year later that I really got hooked. I had no idea there were pops for almost everything! From then my addicti- I mean love for Funko began.

Like most collectors, I collect pops that embody my wide range of interests. Sometimes it would be a movie, show, or person that I really like and I would want a Funko pop of that. Albeit kinda silly, the metric I use to gauge how much I like the show or person is if I would buy the Funko pops of it/them. One of Funko’s slogans states, “Everyone is a fan of something.” I believe this is the beauty of Funko. It’s truly amazing that Funko has created a pop of almost anything imaginable, which allows collectors both serious and casual to own a figure of something they really enjoy or a figure of a person or license that means something to them. I think I would say the three main things I collect are Pokemon, Marvel and Ad Icons. Since Marvel is such a huge line, I like to narrow it down and collect only my favourite Avengers like Captain America, Winter Soldier, Wanda (Scarlet Witch) and Vision.

Picking a favourite pop is like picking your favourite kid; you just can’t! I think right now I really love my Winter Soldier Year of the Shield Amazon Exclusive that I got from none other than K-Dog & Fish. I also love collecting the Funko sodas and their chases, so I was super happy to get the gold chase Crash Bandicoot from a legendary K-Dog & Fish virtual garage sale chase hunt. I have so many grails but I think one that is on the top of my list is the ECCC Captain America WWII from 2017. I think two more realistic grails that I have right now are the Wanda Maximoff from Endgame exclusive to PIAB and an Alex Trebek chase. Hopefully K-Dog & Fish can help me out with these ;). The chase Alex Trebek is probably my number one grail. My family and I watch Jeopardy every night, so it would be great to have it next to my regular one.

I found K-Dog & Fish through a Top Pops video. I had recently become obsessed with the Funko sodas, and was looking for places to buy them. Top Pops directed me to K-Dog & Fish and the rest is history. I would like to conclude my story to say a few things about K-Dog & Fish. I think nowadays the term GOAT or "greatest of all time" gets thrown around too loosely, but I think this title is even an understatement for K-Dog & Fish.

K-Dog & Fish is not some faceless brand that treats customers like a number, they always do their best to ensure every customer has the best possible experience. They bring in hard to find pops that us Canadian collectors can’t easily get and always ship flawlessly so I know I am getting my pops in mint condition. They are transparent with their customers and are easily accessible by message if there is a pop I am looking for. Huge shout-out to both Kdog, Fish and the entire team behind the scenes that make this all possible.

Both K-Dog and Fish have not only succeeded at becoming the premier “Funko guys” in Canada, but they have also built and fostered a Funko community and family through their 4 O’clock Friday shows, virtual auctions and Youtube shows. We are an amazing community brought together by our common love for Funko. We gather together each week to just have fun, talk about the things we love and share laughs due to our plethora of inside jokes such as Brent Gretzky, Aswang, “how many pepperoni sticks are too much” and the bike heist just to name a few. In these uncertain times, the one constant is that Friday is the best day of the week with K-Dog & Fish.

Cheers boys, can’t wait to visit the shop one day and be able to talk Funko, sports and have a "gingerale" with you both.

Thank you Matthew for your kind words and for sharing your story with us! We really hope you get to visit to the Shop one day! Your collection is awesome! We are so glad you found out about our online Shop and Live Shows! Thanks again for being
a part of our Funko community!
