Congratulations to Brian C. of Belle River, Ontario for being the latest K-Dog & Fish Funko Funatic of the Week!!
Here is Brian's Story:
I didn't start collecting Funko until somewhat recently. I already had my own style of a collection with Marvel Legends and figures and I knew that the collection was already big enough. I didn't need to add more to an already-growing hobby. It wasn't until my wife and I were on vacation in Niagara Falls in Summer of 2018 where we went into a comic book shop and I saw my first Funko Pops. Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington from the 90's animated series Gargoyles. It was one of my favorite shows growing up so I knew if I were to collect any Funko Pops, it would be the Gargoyle line! So from there I found the rest of the wave and called it quits...….. but then, down the rabbit hole I went.
My fiancée at the time, now my wife, had already collected a few Pops and it wasn't long until she got me into it. So with her and my inner collector tugging at the ole heart strings, I began my Funko journey.
The Pops that I collect are mainly from things I grew up with; Spider-Man, Ninja Turtles, Gargoyles, Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh, Disney, and now Godzilla. My Wife and I pretty much have the same amount of Pops in terms of our collection, but hers is everything Disney! My personal Holy Grails at this point would have to be the 2 x 10" Godzilla and Kong that dropped this year.
As for how we came to discover K-Dog & Fish... my wife and I were actually heading up to Muskoka, specifically the Bracebridge area, for a vacation in the Summer of 2019. A few months earlier, my sister-in-law had mentioned to us about a dedicated Funko store up that way. So we looked it up and it happened to be a shop called K-Dog and Fish. They had only recently opened the shop, so they were fairly new just like we were new to collecting. We went in with a plan of this being a 1-time experience and to not hinder ourselves at what we wanted to buy for ourselves due to us living 8 hours away...… boy did we take advantage of that plan. We both walked out with a ton of Pops that day and from then on K-dog and Fish were our go-to. The following Summer we actually got married in that 2 week span when things weren't locked down. Our honeymoon was us going back to Muskoka and I knew I had to message them for a private shopping experience. They gave the okay and again we walked out with a bunch of Pops! I believe 15 each was the number! At that point our relationship with K-Dog & Fish was cemented. Fast forward to June 2021 and we still get our Pops from K-Dog and Fish and I actually get the opportunity to do some work with them for their digital content.
As for Pops we're most looking forward to... I thought about making my final 2 Pops, the 10" Godzilla and Kong but then I realized Spider-Man: No Way Home was coming!! So I would say the release of the Pops coinciding with that movie are what I am most looking forward to.
For quite some time my favourite Pops were my Glow-in-the-Dark Symbiote Spider-Man and the Black Light Target Exclusive Spider-Man, but my recent acquisition of the 6-inch Godzilla Pops may have dethroned those Spider-Man Pops. They may get dethroned themselves once the 10-inch Godzilla shows up. We shall see!
