Weekend Box Office: Dec 14 - Dec 16, 2018

Our Spidey Senses were tingling & we were correct! As we predicted last week, the new #1 movie at the Box Office was 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'! With a slick "comic book" animation look & feel, it was written well & voice actor choices were spot on! Being there were no new movies in theatres the weekend prior it came as no surprise to us that something brand new would catch a lot of attention & 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' appeals to both adults and kids! With a $35.3M opening weekend it's also the highest December opening weekend ever for an animated film. Coming in 2nd place with $17.5M was another new film, Clint Eastwood's latest crime drama as actor & director 'The Mule'. 3rd place was 'The Grinch' with $11.7M, which has now been in the Top 5 for Six weeks in a row! That is amazing staying power & has now grossed an amazing $239M domestically. In 4th this past weekend was last week's number #1 movie 'Ralph Breaks the Internet' with $9.2M. After 3 weeks at #1 it was a bit of a drop to 4th, but has now earned $285M worldwide! In 5th place with $7.5M was the new Sci-Fi action adventure 'Mortal Engines'. With a $100M budget this a poor opening weekend but we are not shocked by this, the trailers looked "not great" lol and we even predicted last week it would not do well.

There are some big movies opening this weekend at the box office! In 4,100 theatres is the DC universe stand alone film 'Aquaman' starring Jason Momoa. Also opening is the Transformer's prequel 'Bumblebee' with John CenaHailee Steinfeld, as well as the latest from director Robert Zemeckis 'Welcome to Marwen' about a victim of a brutal attack finding a unique and beautiful therapeutic outlet to help him through his recovery process.

This is a tough one, we think this will be a battle between 'Aquaman' & 'Bumblebee' but at the end of the day our prediction that the new #1 movie at the box office this weekend will be 'Aquaman'! It's in 600 more theatres and has that "It Factor" of Jason Momoa! We have heard many women say, they've never watched a super hero movie before but they would definitely go see this one lol!

Tune in every Week as we recap the Weekend! For full box office results please use our source for all this info Box Office Mojo!
