While some might think that the overlap of Pop Culture and Sports is an obvious one, Funko took their time testing the waters at first to see if Funko Funatics around the world wanted to see their favourite athletes and sports icons turned into collectible Pops. Using the Funko mobile app, you can see the number of Sports-related Pops released by year below...

Obviously, the fans have spoken and Funko heard you! From increasing the number of athletes per sport, per wave, and deepening the 'Legends' rosters, Funko has gone all-in, hail mary, flying V, swinging for the fences with Sports Pops. And as a brand new wave of NFL Pops have just dropped, and with a new wave of NBA & NHL Legends adding to a year that brought us Tennis, Golf & Boxing Legends, we wouldn't blame you if it was a bit overwhelming.

2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes highlights the "Class of 2020" when it comes to NFL Pops coming soon. With all-new poses, these football Pops look awesome! Mike Evans, Dalvin Cook, Alvin Kamara, JJ Watt, D.K. Metcalf, Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Lamar Jackson, George Kittle & Jimmy Garoppolo make this one of the deepest waves ever for NFL fans.

Play Ball! Funko Adds to MLB Pops!

 

Living within close proximity of Toronto means we're a bit biased when it comes to saying that we're most excited about Vladimir Guerroro Jr.'s Pop dropping this year, regardless, all of the the newest wave of MLB Pops look fantastic! The detail on Yankees Catcher Gary Sanchez is great and he'll look perfect next to Yankees teammate Gleyber Torres.

We are also excited to announce that we received a re-stock of ACE the mascot for the Toronto Blue Jays. I think I may have actually high-fived Ace at a Jays game when I was kid. He looks great.

Turn Back the Clocks with the Newest NBA Legends!

With an outstanding 12 NBA Championships between just the three of them, basketball fans will be excited to add Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and the big man himself, Shaquille O'Neil to their Funko collection with the newest wave of NBA Legends. These three aren't alone however, as Sonics players Gary Payton & Shawn Kemp also find themselves on the list of NBA Legends to drop this year.

 

And how could we talk about NBA Legends without mentioning the Greatest of All-Time... Michael Jordan. We are very lucky to still have a limited number of the University of North Carolina Michael Jordan Pop (in the white jersey) available. This Pop is so cool and extremely hard to find!

Bogies, Birdies & Eagles - Funko Adds Golf Legends!

To be clear, these two Golf Legends didn't see many bogies in their careers... with a staggering 135 PGA victories between them. Golf fans will be excited to learn that they can now add Arnold Palmer & Jack Nicklaus to their Funko collection.

What Sports icon - past or present - are you waiting to see brought to the world of Funko? I'd love to see more female athletes and/or Olympic athletes make it to the Pop world. Personally though, my Sports 'Grail' would be if they ever made a Pop of my favourite hockey player Pavel Bure, the Russian Rocket. Ooooouuuu boy that would be an instant buy for me. What about you?
